Privacy Policy

PermaPin is designed to give users control over which Chrome tabs persist across restarts. We prioritize privacy, simplicity, and transparency.

What PermaPin Collects

PermaPin only stores the minimum information required to restore user-selected tabs:

URLs of tabs the user chooses to PermaPin
Optional custom labels (Pro feature)
Optional custom badge colors (Pro feature)
Optional auto-pin domain settings (Pro feature)

All information is stored exclusively on the user's device using Chrome's local storage.

What PermaPin Does NOT Collect

PermaPin does not collect, transmit, or store:

Personal information
Email addresses (except for Pro purchases, handled by our payment processor)
Account data
Payment or financial information
Browsing history
Chrome session data
User activity, clicks, or keystrokes
Analytics or usage data
IP addresses or device identifiers
Website content
Any other data not explicitly listed above

PermaPin does not store Chrome session data or use the chrome.sessions API.

PermaPin does not collect, transmit, or store any browsing history, user activity, or tab behavior beyond the tabs the user explicitly chooses to pin.

No Remote Code

PermaPin does not load, execute, or fetch remote code of any kind. All code is packaged within the extension.

No Third-Party Sharing

PermaPin does not share, sell, or transmit any data to third parties. No data ever leaves your device.

Exception: If you purchase PermaPin Pro, your license key is validated against our payment processor (Lemon Squeezy) to verify your purchase. Only your license key is transmitted - no browsing data, tab URLs, or personal information is included in validation requests. No personal data, browsing data, or tab information is included in license validation requests.

How Data Is Used

Stored data is used solely to restore PermaPinned tabs after a browser restart, crash, or normal close.

Data Security

Because PermaPin uses only Chrome's local storage and no external servers, your data remains entirely under your control.

Pro Purchases (Optional)

If you purchase PermaPin Pro:

Payment processing is handled by Lemon Squeezy (our third-party payment processor)
Lemon Squeezy collects your email address to send your license key
Your license key is validated against Lemon Squeezy's servers to verify Pro access
We do not store your credit card or payment information

License validation: Your Pro license key is transmitted to Lemon Squeezy's servers to verify your purchase status. Validation results are cached locally for 24 hours. No browsing data, tab URLs, or personal information is transmitted during validation.

Permissions Explained

PermaPin requests the following Chrome permissions:

storage: Required to save pinned tab URLs, custom labels, colors, and user preferences locally on your device
tabs: Required to detect the current tab's URL, window ID, and position, save pinned tabs, and restore them on startup
contextMenus: Required to show the "PermaPin this tab" option when you right-click on a page
<all_urls>: Required so you can pin tabs from any website (Gmail, Slack, Notion, GitHub, etc.). The extension cannot predict which sites you want to pin

Important: The <all_urls> permission does NOT mean PermaPin monitors your browsing. It only allows the extension to detect when you manually choose to pin a tab from any website.

Data Retention

Pinned tab data persists until you manually unpin tabs or uninstall the extension
License validation cache expires after 24 hours and is automatically refreshed
Uninstalling PermaPin permanently deletes all locally stored data

Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data: All local data is accessible through Chrome's extension storage (right-click extension icon → "Inspect" → "Application" → "Storage")
Delete your data: Uninstall PermaPin to permanently delete all local data
Export your data: Pro users can export their PermaPin configuration as a JSON file

Children's Privacy

PermaPin is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy will be revised. Continued use of PermaPin after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
